Lenten Worship Services Start February 22nd
Friday, February 3, 2012
Lenten worship services begins with Ash Wednesday, Feb. 22nd We will have the traditional placing of ashes in the sign of a cross on the heads of worshipers.

Each Wednesday of Lent we will consider one character of the passion story through the theme: By His Stripes You Are Healed. We will begin each Wednesday night with a meal at 6 p.m., followed by the Family Night program at 6:30 p.m. Worship services will follow immediately after the Family Night activities conclude at 7:10. Worship will be devotional in nature, involve mini-dramas on the character under consideration and will last approximately ½ hour. We will sing familiar Lenten songs and hymns. Plan to join us during the Lenten Season lead up to our celebration of Easter.

Worship Team Verse of the Month   Job 42:10

After Job had prayed for his friends, the LORD restored his  fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before.

It’s interesting that scripture points out that Job’s fortune was restored and even increased; not after he prayed for himself, but for his friends.  It shows us that God wants us to think of others before ourselves, and care for each other in His name.  We often take friendships for granted, or fail to see the presence of God’s love in the relationships we have with others, but when we recognize the gift of friends placed in our lives by God’s hand, we begin to realize how important these relationships are.  God gives us friends to care for, and to be cared for by, in difficult times.  He also wants us to celebrate our lives in Christ together.  May the friends God has placed in your lives reflect His love in your life, and your relationships lead you to a closer walk with our Lord.

Sermon Series:          “New Hope for Life’s Challenges”

Sometimes, we just get tired of living.  Daily challenges in our home, our marriage, our job, and our health are always there.  That doesn’t count all the mini-crises which happen in the economic/political world or the curve balls that sudden disasters bring into our life.  However, the Bible says that this is not new to you or this generation.  Each passing                        generation has had to face things that push them to the limit.  Believers are no different, except that often what is added to their list is the subtle and not-so-subtle persecution which comes for being a believer in Jesus.  So how do we handle all of this and not allow for it to overwhelm us.  Peter, in his first Epistle, addresses this as he nurtured new believers.  He speaks to us and during February and March we are going to consider Scriptures advice and comfort through a sermon series,                  entitled: “New Hope for Life’s Challenges.”  Our sermon series will explore the following scripture passages from 1 Peter and the following themes:

February 5 “New Hope through Fiery Trials” 1 Peter 1: 3-9 & 4: 12-19

February 12 “New Hope in a Brand New Life Investment” 1 Peter 1: 13-25

February 19 “New Hope at Your Church” 1 Peter 2: 1-10

February 26 “New Hope When Life Ain’t Fair” 1 Peter 2: 11-25

March 4 “New Hope for Your Marriage” 1 Peter 3: 1-7

March 11 “New Hope to Real-World Believers” 1 Peter 4: 1-11

March 18 “New Hope in the Way We Interact as God’s People” 1 Peter 5: 1-7

March 25 “New Hope When Under the Gun of Temptation” 1 Peter 5: 8-11
